INTO University Partnerships today announced that Ecctis, the UK-based expert on international qualifications and skills comparability, has completed an independent benchmarking study of the INTO International Foundation Programme (IFP). The analysis confirms that the IFP meets the academic standards of leading international secondary education systems and provides students with a clear route into higher education.

Ecctis, which has delivered evidence-based qualifications analysis for more than 25 years, found that the INTO IFP assesses knowledge and skills comparable to:

  • GCE AS and A level standard (UK)
  • Advanced Placement standard (US)

In addition, Ecctis assessed the integrated English for Academic Purposes (EAP) module offered within the IFP and confirmed its alignment with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This means students completing the module can evidence their competency in English language attainment for the purpose of university admissions.

"For nearly two decades, INTO has designed pathway programmes that help talented students from around the world progress to leading universities,” said Lucy Thomas, Director of INTO Qualifications. “The benchmarking of our International Foundation Programme by Ecctis reinforces the academic quality and integrity of our qualifications. It confirms that students who complete the programme are well prepared, not only academically, but also with the independent learning and English skills they need, to thrive at top universities in the UK, US and beyond."

Rigorous Evaluation by Ecctis

The Ecctis review evaluated all aspects of the programme, including:

  • Programme design, duration, and structure
  • Curriculum content and delivery modes
  • Assessment methods and learning outcomes
  • Detailed analysis of key subject modules
  • Mapping of the EAP module against CEFR levels

The independent assessment underscores the academic integrity and international recognition of the IFP, while affirming INTO’s commitment to rigorous quality assurance.

Catherine Winter, Chief Executive Officer of Ecctis said, "Our benchmarking confirms that the INTO International Foundation Programme is comparable to the standards of UK A levels and US Advanced Placement. Its focus on academic skills, independent study, and English language development provides students with a strong platform for success at university."
