The INTO UAB Center

INTO The University of Alabama at Birmingham, or INTO UAB, offers a support system to international students including a Learning Resource Center and support services.

  • English and degree-focused tutoring, in addition to Language Exchange and Language Partners programs.
  • A team of academic advisors to support students during their transition to a degree program, in addition to academic, language, cultural and visa/immigration support.
  • 99% of INTO UAB Pathway students were eligible to progress to degree programs in 2019-2020, 93% of whom enrolled.

Programs

INTO offers students the option to apply for direct admission into UAB degree programs, or to apply for INTO UAB Pathway programs, where we prepare them to pursue a UAB degree.

Top-ranked programs and schools at UAB include the No. 1 master’s program in healthcare management, No. 17 master’s program in public health, No. 133 best computer science school and No. 138 best engineering school in the US, according to the Best Graduate School Rankings from U.S. News & World Report 2022.

INTO UAB Programs:

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees: Students who meet academic and English requirements for their desired undergraduate and graduate degree programs can apply directly to the university program.
  • International Year One (IYO): Students can earn credits toward their degree even if they don’t meet academic and English requirements for their chosen undergraduate degree program.
  • Undergraduate Transfer Program: A customized program allowing students to transfer credits and apply them toward their degree.
  • Integrated Master’s Program: Students who meet the English language requirements for a graduate degree program and need additional academic and cultural support can apply directly to the university program and receive customized support.
  • Graduate Pathway: Students can earn credits toward their degree even if they don’t meet academic and English requirements for their chosen graduate degree program. The program helps build the academic foundation and essential English language skills that students need to successfully progress to their chosen master’s degree.
  • Academic English: An intensive program offering students rapid progress in preparation for an academic degree.

Career outcomes

  • UAB offers career services staff and resources that enable students to connect with employers and gain professional experience through career fairs, a job site (Handshake), career planning, on-campus interviews and personalized advising.
  • Employers of UAB graduates include Apple, Ford, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Google, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Intel, Honda and Visa.
  • The Facebook cybersecurity suite at UAB helps students learn how to track down spammers and understand hacking threats to graduate with a proven resume and cybercrime portfolio.
  • The Green and Gold Fund allows students to perform investment portfolio management with $600,000+ in assets. Members have access to training and certification in the state-of-the-art Bloomberg terminal lab.
