The University of Exeter is one of the most highly ranked universities in the UK. Tracing its history back to various educational bodies created in the mid-1800s, it was awarded its own charter and degree awarding powers in 1955.

Home to world-class research and renowned academics, the University of Exeter is known for its high levels of student satisfaction. Part of the Russell Group – one of the UK’s 24 elite research-intensive universities – it’s ranked No. 12 in the UK by The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021 and counts among the top 150 universities worldwide, according to QS World University Rankings 2022.

The INTO Exeter Center

INTO University of Exeter is located on campus and provides students with a range of academic and cultural support services

  • In January 2021, there were students from over 60 countries learning at the INTO center.
  • In the 2019-20 academic year, 99% of students completed their pathway, of which 91% were eligible to progress to the University of Exeter.
  • 93% of students are satisfied/very satisfied with all aspects of their learning experience overall, according to the INTO Annual Student Experience Survey 2021.

Students studying on the center's university preparation courses have a choice of living options, including student residences on campus just 15 minutes from the INTO center, and homestay accommodation with carefully selected hosts.

Programs

Programs at INTO Exeter have been tailored to fit the university's strategic objectives. The programs are developed with and validated by the university. As well as the academic programs listed below, INTO Exeter also offers Academic English, General English, Study Abroad with English and Pre-sessional English courses to improve students’ language skills.

INTO Exeter Programs

  • International Foundation: Pathway programs allow progression to a variety of undergraduate degrees at University of Exeter in: Biomedical, Life and Environmental Sciences; Economics, Finance and Management; Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science and Physical Sciences; Humanities, Law and Social Science; and Mathematics with Economics, Finance and Management. Programs typically last for 2–4 terms. Also available as a four-year combined degree with preparation year, requiring a single CAS.
  • International Year One: Pathway programs allow progression to a variety of undergraduate degrees at University of Exeter in: Accounting and Finance; Biosciences; Engineering; Management and Business Economics; Mathematics with Accounting, Economics, Finance or Management; and Psychology. Programs typically last for 3 terms. Also available as a three-year combined degree with preparation year, requiring a single CAS.
  • Graduate Diploma: Pathway programs allow progression to a variety of postgraduate degrees at University of Exeter in: Finance, Management, Engineering and Sustainable Development. Programs typically last for 3–4 terms.

Center Director, INTO University of Exeter

Neil has over 15 years’ experience of working in international education and supporting international students to achieve successful outcomes in the UK.

Neil initially trained and worked as a design engineer and has a PhD from the University of Exeter, a master’s degree from the University of Strathclyde and an honors degree from the University of Glasgow. He is a fellow member of the Higher Education Academy.

After a very successful time in senior posts at Glasgow University’s international college, Neil now leads one of the most well-established and prestigious pathway centers in the UK. INTO University of Exeter offers a range of courses that prepares international students for progression to both undergraduate and postgraduate education. In this role, Neil provides leadership for the INTO center, with over 1000 students annually and 90+ staff.

Neil has a wealth of experience in resource management, strategic leadership, complex stakeholder management, academic delivery of pathway programs and quality assurance. 

In his spare time, Neil tries to see as many live music gigs as he can, and is an avid supporter of both the Scottish national football team and the Glasgow Rangers.
